Farmers'/Craft Market
The next market is on 9th August. Starts at 10.00 and finishes at 12.30.
The quality of goods and produce is second to none so why not come along
and try for yourself? Contact Anne on 863174 for details
Village Hall
Don't forget the hall will be closed for 2 weeks from August 11th as the
floor will be resealed and walls to the main hall plus outside will be
painted.
At the same time the man-made pond in the corner of the amenity land
will be filled in starting 11th August. If you can spare an hour or a
day that week then contact Anne on 863174. Remember: what can you do for
Etchinghill!
The management committee have agreed to remove the pebbles from the
grounds of the hall following a spate of mindless scattering of the
stones all over the car park and grass to the hall and Shepway's amenity
land. This has caused extensive damage to mowers, and the undesirable
job of picking up the stones from the ground, together with a broken
window means we are getting rid of them. Some of the stones will be
buried in the pond but the majority will be sold to anyone who wants
them. Donations of £5 for a car load or £10 for a trailer will secure
whatever you can legally carry in your vehicle. Don't just take them -
contact Anne on 863174 to arrange time and date for you to PYO.
Our thanks go to the Lyminge Parish Council for the new notice board at
the entrance to the village hall. It is certainly in keeping with the
surrounding area. Watch out for news from the parish together with local
information.
Are you legally minded and recently retired? Do you understand
contractual jargon and have time on your hands? The Management Trustees
are seeking someone to act as advisor to the Management Committee and
commit research time on Land Registry issues and Charity Commission
protocol? Please contact Rodney on 862028 if you can support us.
A new venture for the village hall is 'Open House' which will be held
every Monday. Come along to the Village Hall on 1st September between
10.0 am and 12.0 noon, meet with other people of all ages, exchange
views and ideas of interest, possible visits and talks. Have a cup of
coffee in a casual atmosphere! Watch out for the flyer with further
details, or contact Keith and Rosemary on 863418.
Etchinghill web site
Good news. Matt has come forward to act as web manager for the new web
site. As soon as he has settled in we will publish contact details, for
those contributing to the site, so that it is kept up to date. Have you
already logged on?

Etchinghill Country Fete
We hope you all enjoyed yourselves at the Fete despite the chill in the
air. More than 300 people attended over the period and nearly £1000 was
taken on the day. A great effort was made by all the stall holders, the
events committee and helpers to provide entertainment for you. A special
thanks to all the sponsors for the valuable prizes for the raffle and
loan of equipment.
Neighbourhood Watch
Did you call in to see Judith about NhW when you came to the Fete? If
not then contact her on 862498 for details of how to enrol for FREE!
Etchinghill Residents' Association
David and Edna have formed links with Lyminge Association and meet with
them to discuss joint benefits to the community. The ERA updates are
displayed in the new notice board and comment on Red Telephone boxes,
footpaths, surface water issues, speed watch and other planning issues.
Contact David on 863918 to find out more
Taking Pride in Where You Live
Just because Shepway or KCC don't do their bit it doesn't mean that we
can't. Weeds by the footpaths, sycamore saplings in the communal flower
beds, tree debris on the amenity areas, the mess left by thoughtless dog
owners and rubbish left around gives visitors the wrong image. Do you
care?
By the way several houses have also had dog faeces left on their lawns -
please remember that dog mess should be cleaned and taken away for
responsible disposal.
Dates for forthcoming events
9th August, 13th September, 11th October Farmers/Craft Market
11th - 17th August Pond to be filled in
FROM LYMINGE PARISH COUNCIL - DOG-MESS FOULING
VILLAGE HALL FIELD
The field and the foot-path which runs up the hill from Lyminge High
Street past the village hall and the Churchyard is becoming badly fouled
by dog mess. This is unhealthy, especially for children who play in the
field, and is caused by a minority of thoughtless and selfish dog
owners. You are requested, once again, to carry plastic bags and to
clear up after your animals. This is a general problem around the parish
green areas and footpaths, but the village hall field has attracted
several complaints from members of the public. Everyone who owns a dog
is reminded that the maximum penalty for allowing your animal to foul a
public place is now one thousand pounds!
The Community Warden and PCSO will be keeping a general eye on this
anti-social behaviour problem. |
