Community Matters
The Association's A.G.M will be held on the
24th September 2003 at 8.00 pm in the clubroom of the Village
Hall in Lyminge. As residents in Lyminge you are all part of the
Association but to ensure fair representation we have a
Committee of individuals of ail ages that meet on a monthly
basis. We discuss new fundraising events and ways in which we
can enhance and improve village life for all.
Any monies raised by the Association from the
Newsletter and any other events it holds such as Coffee
Mornings, Garden Safari's. Christmas present distribution and
many other events goes back into your Village and it's
Organisations. All members give their time free however, we are
always looking out for new Committee Members to ensure the
longevity of the Association.
Come along to the AGM and see how you can
help.
There will not be an election for the 2
remaining vacant seats on the Parish Council. The Etchinghill
Ward seats received only one nomination and therefore the
nominee will be duly appointed Parish Councillor. Due to these
circumstances we still have a vacant seat for the Etchinghill
Ward. We would welcome interested residents to contact us for
further information. Please call Cllr Glenn Floyd on 862732.

The bike ride takes place to raise money to go towards

energetic you can participate by cycling (or walking) a
planned route which takes in as many churches as you
care to. Alternatively, you can sponsor one of our
enthusiastic cyclists. They are quite happy to punish

village in Tanzania. These are all being used and
greatly benefiting village communities. This year
our theme is "Water. Vegetable Seeds and Tools to
Till the Ground" and of course the usual much need
essentials of life - rice, candles, soap and
ring-pull cans of food. A container goes off from
Shorncliffe camp every month now, and even the
container itself is utilised by the villages for
classrooms, clinics, etc. Please give generously,
toots can be collected. Phone Ron & Marilyn Norton

agreement of the Village's ex-Policeman. David
Sadler MBE, to come and talk to us on Tuesday 7th
October about his experiences in this locality
during the nine years when he was resident and
responsible for law and order in our community. Many
of you will remember the face of a real human being
and all will be interested in his unusual sense of
humour. Any questions to Bob Gay on 862574.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WEEKEND
How would you capture the parish in a
photo?
You might have seen in previous newsletters that
we're starting work on a Parish Plan, to set out what we want
for our community over the next few years. Part of that is
drawing attention to what we already have all around us - and
what better way to do that than in a photo?
We're organising a series of Photo Trails when we'll be going
to different points in the parish with a local artist and
photographer to see what we each feel inspired to photograph.
The Photo Trails will be taking place during the weekend of:
20-21st September
So please come along and help us capture images from across
the parish - from Etchinghill to Wheelbarrow Town, from
Shuttlesfield to Skeete. We'll use the photographs you take to
create posters and postcards to celebrate our local landscape
and the settlements within the parish, and to illustrate the
Parish Plan, due to be published next summer. Images wilt be
displayed on the village website and at exhibitions later in the
autumn.

to help and advise. Please bring your own camera and film (If
you would like to come but don't have a camera please let us
know, and we can supply one for the day).
Everyone is welcome, experienced or otherwise, including
children - who should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. I
To give us an idea of numbers we would be grateful if you could

all charities, organisations and individuals. For business
advertising, please see business column below. The notice,

Pantomime time!
Well - not just yet! But we have to start work early for
our next production, the pantomime "Aladdin" which will
run from 2nd to 6th December at Lyminge Village Hall.
There will be matinee performances on both Friday and
Saturday. The script has been written and rehearsals
will soon be underway. The new set has been designed and
an enthusiastic team has been formed to start making it.
Our wardrobe team will also be starting to rack their
brains for costume ideas. Laughter, pathos, songs and
audience participation - the usual pantomime mixture is
there! Make a note in your diary to ensure that you do
not miss our first panto of the decade! Tickets will be
on sale in November. More news in the next newsletter.
We are still looking for somewhere dry to store our

Lyminge Gardener's Society
Despite the adverse weather conditions through the
season the summer show was a great and colourful
success. Many thanks to those who participated and to
the many visitors who came along to enjoy the show and
partake of the refreshments Particular thanks to the
Newington & Hythe Gardening Society members whose
exhibits were a welcome addition to the numbers. A
special mention to Marjory and Chris, at very short
notice they became "clerks" for the day and did an
incredible job, alt the certificates and cups went to
the right competitors! The table competition with
Newington in July resulted in a narrow victory, by one
point, for Newington Gardeners. We were well looked
after by Newington Club members and had an enjoyable
evening. We'll try harder next year to be victorious!

entries must be paid for by time of publication. 12
months for the price of 10 are available if booked

sponsored for £30. All business advertisers must
