News from the Parish Council

A voice for young people in the Parish
The Parish Council has been looking into the idea of setting up a Youth Council, to make sure that young people from the parish can get their voice heard. A group of young people & parish councillors have had their first meeting to discuss how a Youth Council could work. If you'd like to get involved, contact Cllr Julie Murphy on 862634 or via julie@themurphys.org.uk.
Parish Plan
The Photo Trail took place over the weekend of 20 & 21 Sept. Hundreds of photos have been taken from across the Parish: some will be used on posters and leaflets and in the Parish Plan publication itself; many more will be displayed on a website. Many thanks to all who took part, and in particular to Steve Thomas for organising the event with such care. If you'd like to know more about the Parish Plan you can contact Cllr Catherine Hughes on 863281 or via hughescatherine@yahoo.co.uk.
Next meeting
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on 27 October, at 7.30pm, at Lyminge Village Hall: as always, you are welcome to attend for some or all of the meeting.

Dennis and Sandra Roberts
I expect that most of the village already knows that Sandra and I have sold our shop and will be leaving the village on 2ndOctober. All our children and grandchildren are living within a short radius of Leicestershire where we are moving to. We have had a really pleasant twenty years in the village and would like to thank everyone who has supported us and, in a great many cases, have befriended us and our children when they were home. Mr and Mrs Kumanan who are taking over the shop are a lovely young couple from Middlesex with two little girls and I am sure that you will welcome them to the village. Please support them as best as you can, there are enough villages turning into dormitories without Lyminge becoming one of them.
Remember 'use it or lose it'. All the best to everyone and thanks from Dennis and Sandra.

I am pleased to receive two letters for publication this month & welcome correspondence for future issues. Please note that a name & address must be supplied, although these need not be published. Anonymous letters will not be accepted. The editor reserves the right to edit or refuse letters. The views expressed here are not those of the Lyminge Association or the editor.

Dear Editor
"/ do sincerely hope that the new tree warden will see that the trees in Tayne Field will finally get some attention. There are two trees near the school gates that have been damaged for three years, nearby is another tree that has been damaged this year, others near the bridge have also been damaged, branches broken by childish vandals. I have also reported that the Cherry Tree in Everist Court Garden that was planted for the Queens Silver Jubilee needs pruning, many dead branches could possibly kill the tree. The plaque that belongs to the tree is currently half buried under the roots." Mrs P V Ross, Lyminge

Dear Editor
"Following refurbishment in October, the new licensees of the Coach and Horses pub intend changing its name to the Nailbourne. Whether Lyminge residents are patrons of the pub or not, it may well be that they have a view about losing part of the heritage of the village. The pub has been called the Coach and Horses long before the present building was built in 1888. No doubt there will be residents who can date the original building on the same site! If residents have a view about this proposal, perhaps they could write to the licensees and/or the brewery." Mike Chisnall, Lyminge

Etchinghill Wl
During the summer break we held a Garden Party in
glorious sunny weather. Barbara Syrett auctioned
various items to raise money for the 'stretch a tenner'
scheme. We had a lovely day at Chartwell in August & again the weather was just perfect. In September some of us had a Ploughman's lunch in Ashford followed by a visit to see the film Calendar Girls.
Our September meeting was well attended. Dottie
Cross took the chair. The speaker was Brenda Pittaway who told us about the swans at Kearsney Abbey. A very interesting talk by a most dedicated lady. The prize for any 'swan object' was won by June Price. Our meeting concluded with a very welcome afternoon tea.

Lyminge Wl
After their very enjoyable Garden Party Meeting held at the home of Christine & Ken Laverty on a glorious July evening, Lyminge Wl had a break in August but was back to normal in September. Members enjoyed a very interesting, and often humorous, talk by Mrs Yvonne Ward on her travels to America and Australia. Mrs Ward had lived in Lyminge in the 1950s and was also able to share news of old acquaintances and a few reminiscences with one or two of our members! Some members had also been to other Wl's over the summer for various garden and birthday parties including Postling, Etchinghill and Lower Hardres and reports of wonderful hospitality and entertainment were shared.

Gift Days - 24th and 25th August
On behalf of the PCC I would tike to thank everyone who gave so generously towards the repairs for the church building. As we go to print the amount raised is £4,688. This is a fantastic total. We distributed 1200 envelopes and just over 100 were handed in, so that's 10% of the village - what a response!
Many people came to the church to ask about the repairs and to have a cup of tea or coffee. Many handed their envelopes in at one of the church services, and many used the different delivery points round the village. However your money reached us, thank you! For those who completed the tax declaration on the envelope, thank you for doing this. This means there will be even more money available
for the repairs when the tax is reclaimed.
The church looked beautiful, bathed in soft summer light, with wonderful flowers over the porch, in the aisle and at the altar, after the weddings the day before. If you didn't come this time to the church, we
hope you may come in the future. We will certainly keep you informed about the repairs as they progress. Rev. Peter Ashman

BUSINESS ADVERTISING NOTICE
The monthly rate for placing a business advertisement in the newsletter is £5 for an unboxed entry and £7.50 for a boxed entry. All entries must be paid for by time of publication. 12 months for the price of 10 are available if booked in advance. The front page of the newsletter can be sponsored for £30. All business advertisers must either live in or trade from the distribution area of the newsletter i.e. be able to provide a home or business address in the Lyminge, Etchinghill, Postling. or Rhodes Minnis area. A mobile business based outside of the area but which could operate here as part of its work. e.g a tradesman based in Folkestone, would not fit this criteria. Apologies to anyone who may be adversely affected by this rule, but by being strict we ensure fairness to everyone and retain the interests of readers and advertisers.
