It's Your
Newsletter, Help us to Make It Better!
I am sure we would all like to thank Sarah
Huntley for her hard work over the last
year. But she hasn't finished just yet - she
has taken on the lions share of putting this
issue together so Sarah thanks for the
gentle introduction. As for me I am really
looking forward to the challenge next month.
One of my first tasks will be to find out
what you want in the newsletter. I am also
looking for more contributors. So, if you
have a suggestion or a contribution, please
give me a call. In the meantime, we need a
volunteer to deliver the newsletter along
Mayfield Rd; somebody has to do it, so why
not you? Ring bebbie Marsh on 863192.
Thank you. Graham Caldow

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES UPDATE
Your Parish Council continues to lobby Shepway
and Kent County Council to secure a connecting
footpath between Etchinghill and Lyminge, (the
front section outside Broadstreet House). The
General Purpose Committee of the Parish Council
have received replies from Shepway and Kent
County Council. Shepway have made it clear that
they have no available funds to pay the £4,000
required for the new footway to link the
existing footpaths. KCC Public Rights of Way
Area Manager, indicated that after the work has
been undertaken across the golf course he was
keen to see the missing section completed and
was trying to secure funding. He has requested
that Lyminge Parish Council partly fund the
project, which would help secure the remaining
funding.
The GP and full Council agreed that, as this
would provide a safer access route and an
important link for Etchinghill and Lyminge
residents we would contribute £500.00 to the
project. We will update you with our progress.
REPAIRS TO ETHELBURGA WELL
The roof of the well has some
tile slippage and requires repair immediately.
The Parish Council have received 2 quotes for
the repair however, under the Councils Financial
Regulations we are required to obtain three
quotes if possible. We would therefore
welcome a further quote from a suitably
qualified person.
The Parish Council would also welcome details of
local companies or self employed individuals to
place on our database of repairs and maintenance
organisations. Although many of our jobs are of
a relatively small nature we would welcome
locally based quotes and will contact all listed
persons for competitive quotes.
You would also be helping to maintain and
improve the area in which you live.
For further details please contact The Clerk To
The Council.
LITTER
The Parish Council have purchased a litter bin
for Jubilee Field, we would request that this
facility is used or that you take your litter
home to dispose of it. Your Parish Councillors
were left with the choice of siting a bin here
on the condition that we emptied the bin
ourselves or not providing the facility. We are
pleased to say that Councillors have volunteered
to empty the bin.
It is worthwhile noting that volunteers and not
Shepway Council empty the vast majority of
litterbins within the Parish. The litterbins on
Tayne Field have recently had domestic and
mechanical waste placed in them, please refrain
from using these bins incorrectly.
ELECTION OF PARISH COUNCIL
CHAIRS
Annual elections of chairs took
place at the May full Council meeting and
monthly Finance, General Purposes and Planning
Committees. The vacancy on the Parish Council
was also filled and we would like to take this
opportunity of welcoming Cllr Lillian Harrison.

Our June meeting was well attended but unfortunately our
speaker failed to arrive. Three members were presented
with birthday posies. As we had no speaker we had an
early tea and a sociable afternoon. The competition was
won by Peggy Banks.
Our next meeting is on 20th July when Mrs Bryant will be
speaking on Royalty in Kent
Lyminge Gardeners Society
There was a delightful visit to the garden of Mr and Mrs
Talbot at Lodge House, Smeeth last month. Many thanks to
them both for their hospitality.
On Tuesday 27th July, Mr Jeremy Edmon, head gardener at
Port Lympne, will meet the members at the Aldington Road
entrance at 6.30pm. After giving a brief history of the
house and gardens we will tour the grounds and
greenhouses. The displays of annuals will be at their
best in July. He will then talk about current and future
policy for the gardens.
The evening will involve a fair amount of walking.
The cost will be £3 per member,
As parking is limited could all members meet at the
library car park at 6pm where car sharing can be
organized
THANKS
Many thanks for all the presents, cards and
messages of good luck I received on my retirement from
the library. They were all very much appreciated. I am
also saying goodbye as Tom and myself are moving to a
village just outside Peterborough to be nearer the
family. We lived in the area for 20 years before moving
to Lyminge so know it well.
I shall certainly miss the daily contact with what are
surely the friendliest villagers in Kent. Very best
wishes to you all. Janet Turner

GARDEN TIPS
At one time it was advised not to feed birds in summer
and particularly when fledglings were about. However,
research has shown adult birds can discern what and what
not to feed their babies, so current advice is to feed
birds the year round if you wish to do so. When grass
cutting in hot, dry, weather, raise the blades on the
mower to avoid scalping the lawn and leave the grass box
off. The cuttings will help protect the grass from
drying out so quickly. Any grass cuttings collected
should be layered in the composter with other garden
refuse to prevent them turning into a slimy mess. Fill
any gaps in the border by standing plants in pots in the
spaces

Lyminge Dramatic Society -- Summer Variety
Regrettably, we have had to cancel the Variety
show which was planned to tour during the month of July.
However, the good news is that we will be putting on our

will have you on the edge of your seats!
The Society is keen to financially support Lyminge youth
and to this end we would like to recruit a leader for a
new youth Drama Group. The role would interest someone
