Lyminge Association News
The weather was certainly an advantage on Saturday 20 March as the
sunshine drew people to the Charities' Coffee Morning held at the Village
Hall. There were 20 tables to choose goods from and several raffles and
tombolas. The 12 organisations, which were represented there, reported
that they had a good morning, so not only the public, but the charities
too, went home happy! Thank you very much to all the Committee for their
hard work and especially to Harry Storey for his valiant help with setting
up and clearing away.
The Lyminge Association has been very pleased to assist some of our
local organisations with grants recently, including Lyminge Bellringers,
Sibton Park Cricket Club, the Methodist Church Hall. The Lyminge
Millennium Committee is also being given an interest free loan to finance
the purchase of some Millennium mugs. The finance for these items comes
from the small profits made at our hosted events and from Newsletter
profits.
Don't forget that we are planning a Garden Safari on the weekend of
June 19th and 20th. Whether your garden is large or small, it may well
inspire others! Gardens which are "new" to our gardens open
scheme are especially welcome. If you would like any further information,
please contact me on 863192.
Finally, the Association is planning an under 15's disco to celebrate
Lyminge being the best village in the County for care and support of young
people. Watch this space! Debbie Marsh, Chairman.
Lyminge Post Office has kindly sponsored the April issue of the Lyminge

Lyminge Millennium Committee News
The Raffle
Many thanks to all the Newsletter distributors for delivering the
Millennium raffle tickets to households in Lyminge Parish. If you did not
get a book of raffle tickets - we are very sorry - we ran out of them! A
new batch has been printed and is being distributed shortly. Your ticket
stubs and the money (£1.00) can be delivered to Haxton's Estate Agents,
who also have a further supply of raffle tickets should you wish to sell
them to your friends and family. Thank you very much indeed to those who
have already visited Haxton's and thanks to the staff and Haxton's for
undertaking this duty. By the way, the raffle is to be drawn on Saturday
19 JUNE at Lyminge School!
A Snapshot of Lyminge
One of the projects for the Millennium which is already being planned is a
book, mostly of photographs, which has the working title, "A Snapshot
of Lyminge". Richard Pealling is co-ordinating this project and hopes
to gather a series of black and white photographs during this year and
early next year. Obviously some of the photographs will be of major
village events, such as Lyminge Day, and the New Year Celebrations, but we
are also keen to incorporate photographs showing the "life" of
Lyminge. If you are planning an event (Christening, Wedding, Coffee
Morning etc.) can Richard come too! Of course, you might prefer to let us
have some of your own photographs of the event rather than have Richard's
presence (and indeed he may not be available!) - good "contrasty"
will be a good alternative to black and white and we may be able to supply
a film. If you have an event in mind, or if you would like further
information, please contact Richard on 862907.
"Harvest of Talents" - for the Harvest Weekend 2000
Following the announcement in last month's Newsletter, this is a call to
all in and around Lyminge who would care to show - demonstrate - sell
articles of their hobby and join in with the painters of Lyminge Art
Workshop in the celebration of the "Harvest of Talents" weekend
during September/October 2000. Non-member painters are welcome.
Contact Bert Lewis on 862746. 3 Ethelburga Drive.
Parish Council News
Any candidate for the Parish Council elections who wishes to display a
card in the Post Office window showing his/her photograph and a brief
personal description may do so free of charge on application to Chris
Blanch. If there are more candidates than seats, the election will take
place on Thursday 6 May.
On behalf of the Kent Air Ambulance Trust, I would like to thank all the
businesses which displayed collection boxes for such a worthy cause. The
total collected was £465.58. Well done. Cllr E. Taylor.
The Dog Warden visited the village recently and told a Parishioner that
Lyminge was just about the dirtiest place in Shepway. He particularly
mentioned the footpath between Brady Road and Ethelburga Drive, and which
connects to Mount Pleasant Close. Not only is it unpleasant, unhygienic
and thoughtless to let your dog foul the pavements, it is against the
bylaw. Please, dog owners, clear up after your dog.

Gardening Tips for April
Seeds for most bedding plants and vegetables can be sown. Also Impatiens
and Pelargoniums to flower before August. Tidy the lawn, if it's too wet
to cut, by trimming and tidying the edges. Get stuck into weeds now before
they set seed. Leave those dying bulbs alone! Mask them with ornamental
grasses if you can't bear to look at them!
The annual slug war now begins. Try planting lettuces near your most
vulnerable plants - hopefully they'll head for the lettuce first and you
can be out with your bucket collecting them mid-munch!
If you have a greenhouse start on the pots and hanging baskets. And much
more - a busy gardening month, but beware of frosts and protect anything
tender.

Sabre Conservatories, Windows and Doors
We manufacture beautiful double-glazed PVC-u units in our own
factory to exacting standards. We can also boast of being only one
of five companies in the UK manufacturing the fantastic slim-line
Marshall Tufflex system Vertical Sliding Sash Window, which caries
a severe weather rating. So, if you have old box sash style
windows and believe PVC-u would look out of place, think again!
Maintenance free, sealed units, spring loaded balances, slim-line
appearance and decorative 'horns' make our Vertical Slider one of
the best on the market. Remember, we are suppliers to the trade
both in the UK and Europe - they know a good window when they see
one!
